The world’s best female cyclists will once again converge on Glenelg, this time for the start of stage two of the 2024 Santos Tour Down Under women’s race.

After record crowds turned out earlier this year to cheer on the elite athletes, Race Director Stuart O’Grady said he was delighted to cast the spotlight on Glenelg again on Saturday 13 January.

“It was such a thrill to see fans lining Jetty Road this year as our first women’s race stage at the highest level of cycling competition began,” he said.

“We’re delighted Glenelg will be in the spotlight again. Riders will spend 112 kilometres in the saddle, and we expect fast, aggressive racing as they vie for victory.”

Holdfast Bay Mayor Amanda Wilson is equally excited.

“We love to host events in Holdfast Bay and we look forward to once again welcoming the world’s best cyclists and cycling fans from across the globe to Glenelg, which is Adelaide’s favourite seaside destination,” Mayor Wilson said.

“This is a good opportunity to showcase our beautiful coastline and for visitors to the city to enjoy what we have to offer – great shopping, dining and entertainment for the whole family – as well as one of the best swimming beaches which is on our doorstep.”

The Santos Tour Down Under will be held from 12 – 21 January 2024, with the women’s race kicking off on the first weekend to enable more fans than ever to get out and see elite cyclists in action.

“We made history in 2023 with the first women’s stage race in the southern hemisphere at UCI Women’s WorldTour level,” Mr O’Grady said.

“Next year we will see the women racing across the first weekend … and we hope to give fans even more opportunity to get out and enjoy the highest level of competition.”
