The Bay Discovery Centre is a social history museum in the heart of Glenelg, celebrating the cultural heritage of South Australia. Wander through our galleries to discover the stories of the Kaurna People of the Adelaide Plains, South Australia's Proclamation and settlement, the evolution of beach culture and some of our States most loved identities.

Entry is by Gold Coin Donation.

Opening Hours

Open daily from 10am to 2pm.

Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, and Good Friday.

Mezzanine Level

The first footrace at Glenelg was held on the 28th of December 1886 to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Proclamation of South Australia. 135 years later, the Bay Sheffield is still South Australia’s premier footrace.
