How do I apply for a position with the City of Holdfast Bay?

To apply for an advertised position, please email with your resume and cover letter of up to 2 pages introducing yourself and outlining your qualifications, experience, and skills relating to the role (refer to the relevant Position Description). Please quote the relevant reference number for the position; this will be detailed in the advert.

Will I receive confirmation that my application has been received?

Yes, you will receive an email notification confirming the receipt of your application.

How long does the recruitment process usually take?

This can vary for each position. The process from beginning (position being advertised) to end (all applicants being advised of the outcome) will generally be from 6 to 8 weeks.

Are pre-employment medical assessments undertaken?

Pre-employment medical assessments are undertaken for Field-based positions. Where a pre-employment medical assessment is to be undertaken, applicants are made aware of this through the recruitment process.

Do I need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19?

Yes, all new employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Evidence is sighted at the interview, however, we do not require copies of vaccination certificates.

Are background screening checks undertaken?

Yes, a Department of Human Services (DHS) screening clearance is required for all positions, with the type of clearance required depending on the position. Applicants are advised at the interview of the type of clearance required.

Is there a probation period?

Yes, all new employees are subject to a six-month probation period, in line with the relevant Enterprise Agreement.

I am currently employed by a council; will Holdfast Bay recognise my current council service?

The City of Holdfast Bay recognises periods of council service, with respect to long service leave and sick leave, in accordance with the South Australian Local Government Act 1999.

What are the conditions of employment?

Employees of the City of Holdfast Bay are governed by either the:

  • City of Holdfast Bay and The Australian Services Union Administrative Staff Enterprise Agreement; or the
  • Field Services Staff Enterprise Agreement
