The City of Holdfast Bay provides free Justice of the Peace services at Brighton Civic Centre and Glenelg Library.
Where can I access Justice of the Peace?
There’s no need to book an appointment – drop in to see us at:
- Brighton Civic Centre, 24 Jetty Road, Brighton
Mondays 10am - 12pm.
- Glenelg Library, 2 Colley Terrace, Glenelg*
Fridays 9.30am -11:30am.
Saturdays 9.30am-11.30am.
*Please note: Glenelg Library will be closed from 6 to 19 October due to essential building maintenance. During this period, the Justice of the Peace service at Glenelg will also be unavailable. The Brighton Civic Centre JP service will continue to operate as usual.
What does a Justice of the Peace do?
A Justice of the Peace (JP) acts as an independent and objective witness to documents people use for official or legal purposes. For example, a JP may:
- Certify a true copy of an original document
- Certify a person's identity
- Witness an affidavit for use in court
- Witness the signing of a document
- Witness a statutory declaration
