Take a journey of discovery along the coastal reserves, walkways, cycle paths, and nearby coastal drives of Holdfast Bay, from Glenelg to Kingston Park. There are a number of foreshore parks and reserves along our coastline that overlook our spectacular coastal beaches. They cater for all the family offering large, grassed areas suitable for picnics or BBQs, with playgrounds and public toilets.
Public Toilets
There are various public toilets along the coast of Holdfast Bay; in particular in our central visitor hubs such as Glenelg and Brighton and many seaside reserves and parks from Glenelg North to Kingston Park. The Glenelg Town Hall has public toilet facilities, the Beachouse next door also. Accessible toilets can be found in Bouchee Walk (off Jetty Road, Glenelg) and the new public toilet block at Seacliff.
Parking
There is a range of parking options at each of Holdfast Bay’s main suburbs: Glenelg, Brighton, Somerton Park, Hove, Seacliff, and Kingston Park. Most parking spaces in Brighton, Somerton Park, Hove and Seacliff are free and provide easy access to nearby services and town centres.
Glenelg is the main tourism precinct in Holdfast Bay and offers paid and free parking options for visitors. There are several off-street car parks with ticket machines installed, which are operated 24 hours a day. Please check the signs for instructions on the time period for each. There are also a few large parking complexes in Glenelg, including one at Marina Pier, Colley Terrace, and Elizabeth Street. Several designated parking spaces along Glenelg’s side streets offer free parking for periods, so you may be a short walk to the centre of Glenelg. To avoid a fine, always read the street signs to ensure you are parking in the appropriate areas.
BBQs
The City of Holdfast Bay have free barbecue facilities in many of the parks and reserves.
We maintain the barbecue facilities, including cleaning.
Accessibility
Accessibility
The streets, parks, and playgrounds within Holdfast Bay are very accessible to all. Glenelg Beach has wide ramps down to the sand and matting to get you to the water’s edge. During certain times, beach wheelchairs are available for people to access the beach areas, too.
Seacliff Beach
Seacliff Beach offers accessible beach options during summer. Thanks to the efforts of Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club volunteers, an accessible beach mat is rolled out every weekend during the patrol season (October to April).
The mat is set up close to the Seacliff patrol tower from 12pm on Saturdays and remains out until 6pm on Sundays and on Public Holidays. Three water wheelchairs are available for free use. To find out more, visit seacliffsls.com.au
Glenelg Beach
Each summer, an accessible beach mat is situated on Glenelg Beach just north of the jetty. The mat connects to the accessible beach ramp from the Glenelg Foreshore and can be used by anyone anytime during the summer.
Tennis Courts
There are many tennis clubs in Holdfast Bay, with several tennis courts available to the public without booking, free of charge, and on a shared basis.
