Hove Sand Pumping Station Mural

The Elements of Play artworks along Brighton Jetty is series of installations that celebrate the physical environment and heightens awareness of wind, the waves and sunlight.

This sculpture is a memorial work to acknowledge Kathleen Duncan Campbell known as Kitty Whyte. Kitty lived on Yadkanulka Station, north of Port Augusta with her family. She would return to Brighton annually for the summer and taught the children of Brighton to swim. At the conclusion of one of her classes in 1926, Kitty dived from the Brighton Jetty and was fatally attacked by a large shark. Kitty was buried in the St. Judes Cemetery Brighton in the family plot.
