Remembering what items can go into your household green-lid FOGO bins is easy – if it grows, it goes.
That simple saying applies not only to food but also nail clippings, hair, and even pet fur.
Meat, bones, eggshells, and dairy are other food products that can be recycled through household FOGO bins, along with:
- Coffee grounds, tea bags, loose-leaf tea
- Cold ash and charcoal
- Shredded paper and sticky notes
- Egg cartons
- Pencil and other wood shavings
- Pet waste

Once collected from your kerbside, households’ food and garden organics are taken to Peat's composting facility and turned into nutrient-rich compost, soil, and mulch products.
Across Holdfast Bay, more than 75 per cent of households have supported the move to weekly FOGO bin collections since it came into effect city-wide in September 2022.
