The City of Holdfast Bay has invited applications from young makers, designers and creatives to participate in a Youth Market initiative, as part of the South Australian Youth Week community event, Movies and Markets under the stars, on Friday 17 April 2026.
Key Dates:
- Stallholder Applications open
Friday 20 February 2026 - Stallholder Applications close
5pm Sunday 22 March 2026
- Stallholders notified
Tuesday 24 March 2026
Please note that your application does not secure a stall. A small selection panel will select the stallholders and notify them accordingly.
The event will be held on Friday 17 April 2026, as part of our Community Movie Night celebrations for SA Youth Week. The markets will be set up outdoors in the back lawn area of Partridge House, Glenelg.
To be considered for a stall at the Youth Market, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Eligibility
- Stallholders must be aged between 10 and 25 years.
- Applicants should demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit, initiative, and enthusiasm for showcasing their work.
Selection priorities
- Selection is based on the quality of the images submitted with the application and the clarity of the product description, including how the items are made or sourced.
- Where possible, priority will be given to applicants who have not been represented in recent Council youth market initiatives, as well as to local young residents. This helps ensure a diverse and inclusive mix of emerging young stallholders within our community.
Product criteria
- Original works designed and created by young makers.
- Handcrafted, creative, and unique items that are not commercially mass‑produced or widely available.
- Quality products that demonstrate innovation, craftsmanship, and creativity.
- A sufficient quantity of work is available for purchase to ensure a consistent offering for market attendees.
- Curated collections of recycled or pre-loved fashion, carefully selected, styled, and presented by the stallholder.
- No reselling of branded, commercial, or factory‑made items that have not been created, upcycled, or meaningfully curated by the young person.
The trading fee to host a stall at this event will be $10. This amount will be payable upon successful selection as a stallholder.
Your stall must be set up and ready to sell by 4pm and remain in place until 6pm. This has been timed intentionally to coincide with the event and supporting activities.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome on Tuesday 24 March, 2026.
Absolutely. Any money made by your sales during the market is yours to keep.
A selection panel will curate the final selection of stallholders against the specified selection criteria. The panel will include the Youth Coordinator and members of the HoldUp Youth Committee. Applicants are not guaranteed acceptance as we have limited stalls available and will prioritise diversity of goods.
Council will supply a 3 x 3 metre marquee for each stallholder. Stallholders are required to provide their own table, chair(s), visual merchandising, and all items for sale. You will also be responsible for your stall operations, including managing cash float, EFT facilities, packaging, wrapping, and carry bags for customer purchases.
We strongly encourage all stallholders to hold their own Public Liability Insurance (PLI) to the value of $20,000,000. This is standard practice for market participation and supports your safety and protection as a seller.
If obtaining your own PLI is not possible, Council has a limited number of permits available that may cover you, depending on the type of goods you are selling. As these are limited and assessed on a case‑by‑case basis, we encourage you to contact us to discuss your situation. We will do our best to support you through the process and explore available options.
We have listened to your feedback! Instead of creating a specific event for young makers, we will join forces with a large-scale family-friendly and free community event. This means an increased audience to engage with and promote your stall. We’re really excited to partner on this event and increase the opportunities for young people in our community!
As a stallholder, you will need to act in accordance with the following conditions:
1. Selection
Applications will be carefully considered against the selection criteria. Applicants are not guaranteed acceptance as we have limited stalls available.
2. Stalls
The selection panel will determine stall allocation. Stallholders are responsible for arranging their stall operations, including change, EFT facilities, wrapping, and carry bags for customer purchases. They are encouraged to set up and display their stall creatively to enhance their products and contribute to the market aesthetic. Please be advised that there is no power available for the stalls.
3. Public Liability
All stallholders are required to have their own public liability insurance to the value of $20,000,000. If you do not already obtain this, you must ensure this has been arranged through the event coordinators before the event.
4. Payment
The fee to hold a stall at the Maker Market event is $10. This will need to be paid before the event. If an application has been deemed successful, a payment link will be sent through.
5. Products
Please make sure that the description on your application is accurate and covers all works intended for sale. Product descriptions must cover the full range of works intended for sale. This is to maintain the balance of products available and protect the unique quality of products sold.
6. Times
Stallholder set-up times will be communicated with the successful vendors. Market stalls must be set up and ready to sell by 4pm. Stallholders are not permitted to pack up prior to 6pm. The market will close at 6pm, followed by the movie screening.
7. Site
You will be provided with a stall site located within the designated Youth Market section (outdoor grassed area) at Partridge House, Glenelg. A marquee labelled with your stall name will be supplied and set up for you. You will need to supply your own trestle table and chair(s). All stall equipment, including signage, must be contained within the boundaries of your site to ensure that your stall is non-obtrusive to other stallholders and leave public access clear at all times.
8. Environment & Waste
To reduce waste, stallholders are asked to consider using recycled and/or recyclable packaging. They are also expected to clean up after themselves and ensure their site is left in good condition. Stallholders are required to remove all waste at the end of the day.
9. Promotion & Publicity
Any promotion of the event will be conducted by the City of Holdfast Bay. Your assistance in channelling any comments to the media through the Council to ensure consistency will be appreciated. The City of Holdfast Bay reserves the right to photograph the market and stallholders, and to document the project for unlimited use in publications promoting the city.
10. Weather & Event Cancellation
In the interest of safety, the Youth Market may be cancelled in the event of extreme heat, severe weather conditions, or any situation that poses a risk to stallholders, attendees, or the community. If the event is cancelled due to weather, all stall fees paid will be fully refunded. Safety is our highest priority, and any decision to cancel will be communicated to stallholders as early as possible.
