NOTICE is hereby given, pursuant to Section 32 of the Road Traffic Act 1961, that the City of Holdfast Bay has resolved to close a road, known as an unnamed public laneway that runs north-south between Strickland Road and Seaview Avenue, Kingston Park (‘the laneway’) for the purposes of restricting the flow and impact of traffic within the laneway and on nearby roads.
The closure takes effect on 15 August 2025 and will be effected by the use of traffic control devices placed at the northern and southern ends of the closed portion of the laneway and the laneway’s intersection with another unnamed laneway that runs east-west between the laneway and Barton Avenue
Major construction works as part of the Transforming Jetty Road Glenelg project will begin on Monday 4 August 2025. This includes temporary restrictions on vehicle access to sections of Jetty Road until the end of December 2025, as well as other temporary changes to side streets.
Jetty Road
Starting 4 August 2025, Jetty Road will be temporarily closed to vehicles west of the junction with Nile Street to Moseley Square.
This will enable the construction of the roadway and footpaths at the same level, a unique feature of the western end of Jetty Road, which includes part of Moseley Street and Colley Terrace up to the Hope Street junction.
The traffic lights at the intersection of Jetty Road and Moseley Street will also be installed at this time.
There will be one-way vehicle access onto Jetty Road via a right-hand turn from Moseley Street.
Vehicles will travel east on Jetty Road and will exit Jetty Road by turning left into Nile Street.
Vehicles entering Jetty Road from Brighton Road can travel west along Jetty Road up until Byron Street, where they will be directed to turn right.
The construction team will coordinate and ensure emergency service access at all times.
The City zone of Jetty Road, which is the section west of Brighton Road to the Partridge / Gordon streets intersection, remains open to vehicles and pedestrians as normal.
Part of Jetty Road, Glenelg, from Moseley Street to Nile Street, will be closed to all traffic from Tuesday 30 September – to accommodate necessary works by SA Power Networks.
The temporary road closure will also allow for the construction site to expand further; however, additional pedestrian crossings will be installed across Jetty Road to ensure pedestrians can still move about the precinct easily.
Signage will be in place around the precinct advising drivers to find an alternative route.
Colley Terrace
Colley Terrace will be closed at Hope Street, with a turnaround area implemented.
Local traffic will be permitted access up to the corner of Moseley Square, which includes visitors to Colley Towers and delivery vehicles.
Durham Street
Durham Street will remain one-way southbound between Augusta Street and Chittleborough Lane, with no vehicle access south of Chittleborough Lane.
Traffic will be directed to turn left into Chittleborough Lane towards Sussex Street, with a left-turn into Sussex Street.
Sussex Street
There will be no traffic entry to or exit from Jetty Road into Sussex Street.
Traffic can exit left into Sussex Street from Chittleborough Lane.
Sussex Street, south of Augusta Street, will be two-way for local traffic only. There will be no exit from Sussex Street onto Jetty Road.
Two car parks on the eastern side of the street, near the closure point, will be temporarily removed to allow for a vehicle turnaround area.
The loading zone on Sussex Street near Chittleborough Lane will be retained.
Milton Street
Milton Street will convert into a two-way street west of Chapel Street through to the corner (near Dante’s Deli).
The St Mary’s Memorial School drop-off zone will be maintained on Milton Street. Parking west of the drop-off zone, and parking on the northern side of the street will be temporarily removed to facilitate the two-way traffic movement.
Soal Street
Soal Street will convert into a two-way street but for local traffic only. There will be no entry to or exit from Jetty Road.
A concrete median at the junction of Soal Street and Augusta Street will be removed to help facilitate the two-way traffic movement.
Any changes to kerbside bin collections will be communicated as soon as possible.
Nile Street
Eastbound traffic will turn left into Nile Street from Jetty Road.
There will be no exit from Nile Street onto Jetty Road.
Access to the Coles car park will operate as usual. All other parking on the street will be retained, including an accessible car park located at the southern end of Nile Street near Jetty Road.
The current loading zone, near Waffle King, will be temporarily moved 3 metres north.
Gordon / Partridge Street
No changes to the road operations of Gordon / Partridge Street and the two Partridge Street car parks will remain open and accessible.
Commercial waste collections
Businesses within the road closure areas will receive direct communications next week regarding minor changes to commercial waste collections.
All other businesses that are not within the road closure areas will continue to have their commercial waste collected as usual.
Temporary changes to bus services
There will be temporary re-routing of some bus services between August and December 2025.
Buses will continue to service Moseley Street and, in lieu of Jetty Road, they will travel along High Street towards Partridge / Gordon streets.
Buses will be redirected from Colley Terrace to Anzac Highway with stops near Wigley Reserve.
Please refer to the Adelaide Metro website for up-to-date timetables and routes.
It’s anticipated that bus services will return to normal by the end of December once Jetty Road has reopened to vehicle traffic.
Pedestrian access to businesses
Pedestrian access will be maintained along the entire street during each phase of construction, via temporary walkways or ramps as needed.
From late August 2025
The road closures will extend towards Partridge / Gordon streets intersection, with more details to be communicated closer to that time.
End of December 2025
The construction work on Jetty Road will be complete, and the road will be reopened to vehicles.
Work will continue into the side streets, on the footpaths and garden beds, with the project expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.
Schedule of works
The above information, including the proposed dates for construction and program of works, is correct at this time.
We are continuing to work through the details and refine plans to ensure access to Jetty Road businesses is retained and traffic can move around the precinct as freely as possible.
However, if there are significant changes, these will be communicated.
