Repair works on storm-damaged Esplanade
Targeted repair works are now underway along the Esplanade at Glenelg North, with the pathway expected to be reopened to pedestrians by mid-September.
Approximately 250 metres of the coast path suffered significant structural damage after two storm events in May and June this year.
The area was fenced off for public safety to allow for engineering inspections to assess the damage, which led to the discovery of extensive erosion and large voids beneath the pathway.
Following expert advice, the targeted repair works will stabilise the rock seawall and reinstate the paved coastal footpath. The remediation works will return the pathway to its pre-storm conditions.
Council has applied to the Coastal Protection Board for funding to support the remediation works., which are being delivered by Base Civil Constructions.
