Nominate someone great
Do you know someone who makes your community a better place?
Why not nominate them for a Citizen of the Year award, which is presented each year on Australia Day.
The awards are presented by the Australia Day Council of South Australia and administered by local councils.
They recognise and celebrate individuals or organisations who have made a noteworthy contribution to the year – or who have given outstanding service over a number of years.
The awards cover the fields of education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment, or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of a community.
The four awards categories are:
Citizen of the Year Award: This is presented to someone making an extraordinary contribution to the community and may recognise outstanding service over a number of years. To be eligible, the person must be an Australian citizen.
Young Citizen of the Year Award: This is presented to a young emerging leader who is making a real difference in their community. This person must be an Australian citizen aged between 16-30 years.
Community Event of the Year Award: This is presented to the person or group who has staged the most outstanding event for their community. To be eligible, the person or group must be Australian citizens.
Award for Active Citizenship: This is presented to a person or group delivering outstanding work on an event or project for the community during the past calendar year. The person or group need not be Australian citizens.
These awards will be presented to the recipients at a public ceremony at Glenelg on Australia Day next year, which falls on Monday 26 January 2026.
