If you have a love of Holdfast Bay’s heritage, you’re invited to submit an expression of interest to join Council’s newly established Heritage Advisory Committee.

There are two specialist independent member positions available on the committee and the successful candidates will sit alongside three elected members, Council’s Heritage Advisor and its Curator History & Exhibitions to make up the seven-member committee.

The role of the Heritage Advisory Committee is to:

  • identify and protect the City of Holdfast Bay’s heritage places and related objects;
  • promote an understanding and appreciation of Holdfast Bay’s heritage
  • review the effectiveness of heritage conservation programs, policies, initiatives and incentives
  • support the conservation of places and related objects of local heritage significance
  • assist the Council with advice relating to heritage matters and assisting the Council to preserve and interpret the city's heritage for future generations.

The independent members of the Heritage Advisory Committee should possess the following attributes:

  • Reasonable knowledge of the operation and requirements of the Heritage Places Act 1993
  • Suitable qualifications and experience in heritage architecture and/or conservation
  • Extensive knowledge and/or a practical understanding of standards of conservation practice, such as the Australia ICOMOS’s Burra Charter
  • Minimal potential as a result of employment, business, financial or personal interests for issues of conflict of interest to arise in the role of an Independent Member on the Panel.

Meetings of the Heritage Advisory Committee are scheduled to take place quarterly with independent members compensated for their time and expertise by an appropriate level of remuneration.

Expressions of interest, detailing experience, skills, knowledge and qualifications should be forwarded to mail@holdfast.sa.gov.au by 5pm on Friday 25 July 2025.
