Date set for Glenelg marina boardwalk repairs
Planned repairs to the Edith Butler Pier Boardwalk at the Glenelg Marina will start on Monday 23 February 2026 now that a temporary delay has been resolved.
The updated construction program is expected to take 13 weeks and will include repairing third-party structural issues, which were identified in the surrounding areas, beyond the boardwalk infrastructure.
To ensure the safety of the community and construction workers, the following temporary access changes will be in place for the duration of the project:
• The Edith Butler Pier boardwalk and the concrete walkway across the Patawalonga Lake South Gates will be closed to the public.
• This closure will remain in effect throughout the Easter period in April.
• The Patawalonga Boat Lock will stay operational unless temporary closures are required for construction access or safety purposes. Any necessary closures will be communicated well in advance to affected users.
The structural repairs to the Edith Butler Pier Boardwalk will be focused on the north-west portion and include replacing the boardwalk surface, balustrades, and key structural components to ensure safety and longevity.
Advance notice signage with clearly marked out detours will be installed prior to the works starting on Monday 23 February 2026.
The expected completion date is mid-May 2026, subject to weather or unforeseen conditions.
Council has contracted McMahon Services, who will utilise their existing site compound within Tarniwarra Reserve, North Esplanade, until project completion.
The site compound is half the size of the site compound required during the State Government’s Patawalonga South Gates upgrade project in 2024-25. The current fence alignment will be retained, except for the BBQ and bench area, which will be returned to public use.
The reserve will be restored to its original condition after the project.
