We invite you to share your feedback on the concept designs for the old Buffalo site at Wigley Reserve, Glenelg

old buffalo site

We invite you to share your feedback on the concept designs for the old replica HMS Buffalo site at Wigley Reserve, Glenelg. The removal of the replica HMS Buffalo from the banks of the Patawalonga at Wigley Reserve has created an opportunity for this space to be reinvigorated and repurposed for the community to enjoy.

Feedback received from phase one of engagement in 2019 demonstrated that respondents would like to see this space repurposed for the benefit of children, young families, adults and visitors to the area. In particular, there was a high level of community interest for the old Buffalo site to be reinvigorated into a space for:

  • Eating and drinking with the inclusion of a café or restaurant
  • Recreation and leisure activities including water access or natural open space
  • Landscaping/vegetation, natural shade, seating and BBQs

The themes identified during the first phase of engagement have been used to inform the creation of two draft concept designs, which also take into consideration:

  • The Aboriginal and European history of the site and the cultural significance
  • Accessibility for a range of ages and abilities
  • Maximising the views and access to the Patawalonga River
  • Ongoing maintenance requirements and asset lifespan
  • The proximity and integration into the new playspace at Wigley Reserve

We now ask for your feedback on these concepts to determine a final concept design.

This engagement opens on 20 May and closes 5pm Friday 11 June 2021
