Upgrades underway at Dover Square Tennis Club

Friday 12 August 2022

The construction of new tennis courts and the installation of new sports lighting is underway at the Dover Square Tennis Club in South Brighton.

Holdfast Bay Mayor Amanda Wilson was joined by members of the tennis club to mark the occasion.

The City of Holdfast Bay has committed almost $360,000 to deliver this project, with an additional $40,000 received from the Australian Government’s Local Roads Community Infrastructure Program.

The Dover Square Tennis Club contributed $20,000 and $55,000 was received through the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing’s Grassroots Facilities Program.

As part of the upgrades, two tennis courts (3 and 4) will be rebuilt and sports lighting will be installed on all four tennis courts.

Importantly the new courts and lighting will both meet Tennis Australia and Australian Standards for club level competition. This will help cater for the Dover Square Tennis Club members, local and broader community whether it be competition, social or training tennis. The project will also see new bike stands installed.

The Dover Square Tennis Club is a community-level sporting club providing training, competition and social tennis opportunities for the local and broader community. The club was founded in 1932 and is affiliated with both the Glenelg and District Tennis Association and Tennis SA.

The project should be completed by the end of the year.
