Buffalo to be demolished
The City of Holdfast Bay wishes to advise it has received a Development Application for the demolition of the former restaurant site known as HMS Buffalo which it has approved.
Works are expected to commence in the start of February, with completion in mid-April.
The area will be hoarded off during this period, as such, the adjacent footpaths will be closed.
At the time the HMS Buffalo was acquired by the Licensee in 2013, it was considered to be a viable project.
Due to unforeseen costs associated with the proposed refurbishment of the HMS Buffalo and the deteriorating condition of the vessel, the Licensee has decided not to further the redevelopment of the vessel and surrounds.
Instead, the Licensee will remove the vessel and terminate its licence agreement with the Council.
Council accepts that the passage of time has taken its toll and that this is now the only practical outcome for the dilapidated replica.
Council will now consider the best ongoing utilisation of this open community space in the coming months.
