Protecting our sandy beaches
Thursday 25 February 2021
Three new sand groynes will be installed on Brighton beach, as part of Holdfast Bay's continued work in protecting the coastline and stopping the loss of sand from our beaches.
Approximately 114 geotextile bags, each filled with 4500kg of sand, will be installed at three locations along the beach, north of the jetty.
- Groyne 1 - On boundary line of No. 97 & 98 Esplanade, Hove
- Groyne 2 - In line with Holder Rd, North Brighton
- Groyne 3 - North of Gladstone Rd, North Brighton
Works will continue until 8 March, between 7am-5pm, Monday to Saturday.
The beach access point near Downing Street, Hove, will be off-limits during this time.
There are currently six sand groynes along Holdfast Bay beaches with two installed in 2019 and two the year before.
The latest additions will complete Holdfast Bay's sand groynes project and will improve sand retention along the Brighton section of the foreshore.
