New event rolling down to the Bay

Monday 7 September 2020

Strap on your knee pads, pull on your retro socks and get ready to burn off the winter blues.

A new event - Bay City Rolling – is rolling down to Glenelg’s Moseley Square for two weeks only from 25 September just in time for the upcoming school holidays.

A 460 square metre roller skating rink will be set up under an open marquee in Moseley Square, with access to fresh sea breezes and gorgeous beach views.

With only 150 tickets available per session, there’s plenty of room to work on your best skate moves around the large rink, while also allowing enough space for safe social distancing.

There are nine 45-minute sessions each day, starting at 9.30am, with 30 minutes between each session.

And for those wanting to relive their glory days on the skates - a la Olivia Newton-John in the 1980s cult hit Xanadu – the rink will be turned into a roller disco on Friday and Saturday nights, and on the Sunday before the long weekend in October.

Holdfast Bay Mayor Amanda Wilson is looking forward to kicking off the spring and summer events season at Glenelg.

“I’m so excited to get my roller skates out from hibernation. It is important to our community to have a fun new family activity in Glenelg after the challenges that we’ve all faced throughout the year,” Mayor Wilson said.

“And it’ll once again prove that Glenelg is a great destination for affordable entertainment that the whole family can enjoy – along with lots of open space and fresh air.

“We’ve already had a taste of some magnificent spring weather at the Bay and it’s only going to get better.”

Bay City Rolling wraps up on Monday 12 October.
