Glenelg road closure for NYE

Sunday 26 December 2021

Jetty Road at Glenelg will be closed to motorists and the tram from 2pm on New Year’s Eve.

SA Police has requested the road be closed to vehicles for the evening to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

The road closure will be effective from the Gordon St/Partridge Street intersection down to Moseley Square. Sussex Street will also be closed to traffic (from 4pm).

Jetty Road will also be closed to buses, with bus stops relocated for the night to High Street and Anzac Highway, adjacent to Wigley Reserve.

Even though there are no fireworks or formal celebration planned for New Year’s Eve at Glenelg, SA Police is expecting increased foot traffic across the precinct.

Due to COVID-19 and SA Health requirements for major events, the City of Holdfast is unable to organise a celebration that would attract tens of thousands of people.

However local restaurants, bars and cafes will still be open for business.

“Although there are no fireworks this year, the wonderful restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs across Holdfast Bay will still be open and will be a very popular option for New Year’s Eve,” Holdfast Bay Mayor Amanda Wilson said.
