Gardening group celebrated with Premier’s award

A keen group of green thumbs, who are known as the Wednesday Gardening Group, are among the Premier’s award recipients for outstanding volunteer service.

The gardening group, which is made up of participants from disability service provider Minda, received a Premier’s Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Volunteer Service, as did the group’s leader, volunteer Kinda Tabbaa-Snyder.

The gardening group, which was featured in the Autumn edition of Council’s Our Place magazine, meet once a week at the Holdfast Bay Community Centre.

Together they have built a flourishing vegetable garden and carry out other maintenance tasks like pruning and weeding.

With assistance from support workers and volunteers, and with Kinda guiding them, the group has spent up to three hours a week in the garden since they first got together in October 2022.

Kinda accepted the award on behalf of the group at a special breakfast to celebrate all volunteers, as part of National Volunteer Week, 15-21 May.

  • Jennifer and Gary Zerna – Environment

Certificates were also presented to 40 volunteers for their years of service to the community, ranging from five years to 20 years.

And one person, Elise Knight, was recognised for dedicating 25 years of service to the community.

Another 11 people were acknowledged with Certificates of Appreciation for their dedication to volunteering and serving the Holdfast Bay community. Congratulations to:

More than 300 people volunteer with the City of Holdfast Bay, donating more than 46,000 hours of their time to the community throughout the year.
