Your Holdfast - Projects & Engagements
A big thank you to our wonderful volunteers
More than 300 volunteers, who service the Holdfast Bay community, give up more than 980 hours of their time each week. Across an entire year, that’s a staggering 47,000 hours.
And National Volunteer Week (17-23 May) is our chance to recognise, celebrate and give thanks to the wonderful people who give up their time for our community – be it removing weeds from our nature reserves or driving elderly people to appointments and social outings.
At a special breakfast to celebrate and thank our volunteers, many received certificates for their years of service – from 5 years to an impressive 25 years - as well as appreciation awards.
Among those community members receiving awards for 25 years of service were:
- Mary Beale
- Berenice Batten
- Jill Golley
Two community members - Michael O'Donnell and Gordon Hampton - also received a special commendation and received the prestigious Premier's Outstanding Volunteers certificate.
For the past 13 years, 86-year-old Michael has volunteered at the Men’s Shed at Alwyndor.
And for the past six years, Gordon has been instrumental in researching and delivering information relevant to the Air-Raid Shelter museum.
This year’s volunteers’ breakfast was a double celebration as last year's event was postponed due to COVID.
If you want to join this special group of people and become a volunteer, find out more on our Volunteering page.
