Meet the winner of the Mayor's Christmas Card competition – year 5 St Mary's Memorial School student Xavier Lundberg.

His picture, titled Fun Cricket Game at Glenelg Beach, wowed the judges who commented that the design “totally nails the ‘Christmas at the Beach’ theme”.

“It’s original, colourful and will work wonderfully as the 2020 City of Holdfast Bay Christmas Card”, the judges said.

City of Holdfast Bay Mayor Amanda Wilson presented Xavier with his prize - a $100 Jetty Road Glenelg gift card and congratulated him on his winning entry.

“He nailed the brief and it had it all - it was bright, fun and showed Christmas at the beach," she said.

Xavier said he was excited for his picture to be chosen for Holdfast Bay’s 2020 Christmas card.

"I was very surprised and when I got the call...I was about to burst into tears from happiness," he said.

"It took me two days to finish and I'm pretty happy with it.

"I love drawing and I draw something everyday."

The competition was open to children aged 5 to 12 who live in or go to school in Holdfast Bay, with second place awarded to Tori Peck for the artwork titled Christmas with Santa and Elves at Brighton.

“We really liked that there was so much to explore on the page and the activities of all of the characters in the picture,” the judges said.

In third place was a picture drawn by Jasmine Pirakis titled Christmas Picnic down the Beach.

The judging panel were “very impressed with the beautiful detail”.
