In 1997, the City of Holdfast Bay signed an agreement with the Town of Hayama in Japan, to formalise the Sister City arrangement between the two communities. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of this arrangement, another formal agreement was signed in 2007.
Hayama is located 60 km South of Tokyo, facing Sagami Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The population is approximately 30,000 and the Japanese Emperor's summer villa (Goyou Tei) is located within the city. Hayama is famous for its beautiful beach and a popular coastal town.
Cultural ties have been developed through student exchange programs, citizen tours and business delegations that have visited the Sister City over recent years..
Hayama's people are tolerant, warm and friendly and we look forward to further promotional strategies between our cities that will increase the economic, educational and cultural outcomes of our Sister City relationship.
