Olli driverless bus trial begins
The Olli bus autonomous vehicle trial has begun, with route mapping being undertaken for the next few weeks before the full, passenger-ready trial starts later in November.
The trial will include the use of “Olli” Shuttle – a driverless mini bus – and two “smart” bus stops.
The trial will take place on the South Esplanade shared pathway between the Stamford Grand forecourt at the northern end and the Broadway Kiosk at the southern end.
The portable smart bus stops themselves will be placed on the edge of the pathway and grassed area adjacent to the Stamford Grand and the Broadway Kiosk.
Signage is currently in place along the route to let pedestrian and cyclist know the Olli bus is also in operation.
The trial itself is being conducted by a partnership between the makers of the Olli Shuttle, Local Motors, the makers of the smart bus stops, SAGE Automation, and DPTI. Further information about the trial including how it will operate, schedules and booking information will be made available by the partnership shortly.
