Celebrate the New Year with fireworks and music
Everyone is invited to ring in the New Year at Brighton or Glenelg, with spectacular fireworks and DJ sets throughout the night.
Both events – on Wednesday 31 December 2025 – are free and family-friendly.
Synchronised family fireworks will start at 9.30pm at both locations. Glenelg will also host a midnight display.
Music will set the mood at Glenelg, with DJ Matt, Brooke Seto and DJ Manov (who runs Cherry nightclub in the city) performing from 6pm to 1am. At Brighton, DJ DFoe will spin tunes from 6pm to 10pm.
City of Holdfast Bay Mayor Amanda Wilson said the events are not to be missed. “Celebrating the joy of our New Year’s festivities is always a highlight of my year, and I’m thrilled we’ve been able to bring these two events to our community.
“As the year comes to a close, it’s wonderful to gather together, reflect on the year’s highlights and look forward to the opportunities 2026 will bring.”
Food, drinks and beach access
Many local businesses will be open for food and drinks on the night, but patrons are encouraged to check with individual venues and book early to avoid disappointment. Revellers are also welcome to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks. Please note that both events are designated dry areas, and no alcohol is permitted.
SA Water Quench Benches will be available for those carrying reusable bottles, providing a convenient place to refill them with free drinking water.
Despite the algal bloom, SA Health advises that our beaches remain safe to enjoy. Swimmers should still avoid foamy or discoloured water, and people with asthma are encouraged to keep their reliever medication close by. Surf Life Saving SA representatives will also be on site to assist where needed.
Public toilets will be open at both locations, and first aid services will be provided by St John Ambulance SA.
Jetty closures and fireworks safety
Both jetties will close from midday and reopen on New Year’s Day (1am at Brighton and 4am at Glenelg), and a 200-metre exclusion zone for boats will be in place during the pyrotechnic displays.
Pet owners are reminded that fireworks can distress animals and are encouraged to make suitable arrangements.
Transport changes and travel tips
For both locations, it’s set to be a busy evening, so people are advised to allow extra time to get there and enjoy the celebrations. While trams won’t be operating in Glenelg due to the State Government’s Tram Separation Project, special-purpose bus zones will be set up on High Street for passengers travelling south or to the city, and on Anzac Highway (Wigley Reserve) for those heading north or to the city.
