A diverse and resilient local economy
Economic prosperity has been a core element of council's strategic planning and is reflected in the council's 'Our Place 2030' Strategic Plan as a core pillar to ensure 'A diverse and resilient local economy'.
Council's Economic Activation Plan 2018-2023 focuses on five strategic directions and working objectives. These strategic directions form the basis of a five-year action plan for the delivery of collaborative economic development programs and initiatives, resulting in ongoing economic prosperity for the city in the following key areas;

Business Confidence Summary Results
Every two years 300 businesses take part in a citywide business confidence survey. The information gained assists with informing business support programs and identifies key issues, opportunities to help determine the future economic direction of the city.
Businesses have a key role to play in shaping the future of employment, access to goods and services, and ensuring our retail precincts remain vibrant.
Small Business Friendly Council Initiative
In December 2017, we became the first metropolitan council to join the Small Business Friendly council initiative being coordinated through the Office of the Small Business Commissioner.
For businesses this means a commitment by Council to liaise with small businesses on a regular basis, offer training, forums, and networking events, prompt payment of accounts, commit to local procurement wherever possible, and have policies in place to work with businesses regarding dispute resolution should they arise.
The Office of the Small Business Commissioner runs a series of events and training on a range of topics to assist businesses.
Jetty Road Mainstreet Committee (JRMC)
This committee was established by Council for the benefit of traders on Jetty Road Glenelg and funded by a separate council rate. It is through the establishment of the JRMC that the Jetty Road Glenelg precinct has become recognised across South Australia and beyond as an industry leader.
